John (John A. Sampson) is a dyed-in-the-wool Scot. He was born in Fife but moved away at an early age. His Father was Major in the Salvation Army, and so the family moved around a lot during his childhood.

After his desertion from the SA, where he had learned trumpet, John studied recorder at Napier Music College in Edinburgh. John was awarded the highest grade ever achieved for his playing.

When not on tour with Pat or Scarlatti, John lives in Edinburgh, works playing music with theatres all over the U.K. and for Radio and Television.

He is a passionate football fan, and can name the members of every Scottish team since 1922. John is also working on his book: "Great Beers of the World". John has never learnt another language, but can say "hello" and order a beer in 15 of them!
